Verse Text: لَوْلَا إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ ظَنَّ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُ بِأَنفُسِهِمْ خَيْرًا وَقَالُوا هَذَا إِفْكٌ مُّبِينٌ

Transliteration: Lawla ith samiAAtumoohu thanna almu/minoona waalmu/minatu bi-anfusihim khayran waqaloo hatha ifkun mubeenun

Translation (Tahereh Saffarzadeh): Why did not the believing men and women, when they heard of it, think of the person's Faith and Chastity? And why did not they say: "This is but a big slander?" Translation (M.H. Shakir): Why did not the believing men and the believing women, when you heard it, think well of their own people, and say: This is an evident falsehood?
